Love this type of boats Jay, well done. A few years ago we where thinking on such type of boat ( after 15 years of competon sailing ) but we ended in an Morgan again.

we have a Morecambe Bay prawner slowly rotting away in a mud berth at my club. Allegedly she originally was a prawner and used round where you are Jays and converted to a yacht later on.

From what I have seen, and I have seen more than a few wooden boats, they are all a maintenance nightmare - or a full time maintenance hobby if you prefer. Thank heavens that my boat is made from what an old wooden boat friend called frozen snot.

Wooden boats are lovely to look at, but I agree with you Howard. Give me a plastic soap dish any day.

Having spent years helping to maintain and also skipper the Norfolk Wherry "Albion", I can say that, yes wooden boats are beautiful but a plastic fantastic gives you more sailing time.

Very true Howard and Giles. It was bought because of the heritage to the village and yes...we know that maintenance will be expensive and hard work. The boat comes out in October for a major refurbish. But for the group involved that’s part of the fun of it.
As the estuary is tidal our sailing times are quite restricted to the highest tides. For the other times I have the family Enterprise to mess about in. The estuary is better suited to dinghies! We took that out for the first time today on high tide....it’s not sailed for ten years and I’ve soent a fair bit of time working on it. A self bailer leaks which is 😳 but otherwise it was huge fun. I’ve not sailed on the estuary since I was a teenager and indeed not sailed since and loved every minute of it.

Knew I'd get the class name wrong sooner or later
Blame that on a 2 ft model yacht I had to sail on the local boating lake in Herne Bay a long time ago.
I looked for another some time ago, but I suspect Sue would not have been impressed with one on the mantelpiece

Other than the 24 footer I have a very fast little skiff but I haven't used it for 3 years now. It costs too much to keep it at the club and all things considered can be difficult in the wrong conditions. We have a lovely 12' dinghy class in Italy and here on the lake. I may have been better off with one of those.
