I would say tight but doable. But why do you think the PCV has failed?
On my S1 I replaced the long pipe from the PCV to the manifold as as possible air leak. The cheaper new pipe would collapse under vacuum making that sucking sound longer & louder that you get occasionally on stopping the engine. I refitted the old Ford pipe and all was well.

I'm just trying to cross things off the list for what might he causing my engine to ever so slightly hunt on idling. It isn't much, and no where near to the point of stalling, but I don't like it. I've had a look at the maf, and that looks nice and clean. Ive cleaned out the iac as that had a dusting of carbon on it. I'm gonna look at the plugs next and while the manifold is off/lifted replace the Pcv valve, as I've read that they should be changed every 2 years or do. The outer foam part of the hose at the valve end looks a bit worn, and they was a small pool of oily crud at the manifold end. Any advice on where to source a new pipe and valve from as Google has failed me so far?

I would suggest a Ford dealer as the cheap ones on Ebay hose wise aren't good. I have a hose and IACV I bought trying to track down an engine lean warning light. Pm me if interested.

That would make sense Dave, as I'm sure some jag x types have ford v6 engines. Will search on that, thanks.

The iac seems fine, but if the hose is for the PCV valve then it take that off your hands. I'll pm you if it is.

Had a good look at my spark plugs today, both sides of the V. Followed Dave Ws advice on chocking up one side of the intake manifold, but needed to detach the throttle body and accelerator linkage. The plug tips on the "awkward side" where in really good condition. As we're the "easy side", but all 3 had browny orange burn marks on the ceramic, managed to scrape some off so not sure it could be rust, or some other burnt residue. I've got some plugs coming, but any idea what could have caused the discolouration of the ceramic.

I can only speculate, but the offside bank is well protected from weather, whereas the nearside bank could in theory take spray in wet weather.

Thanks dave. Could the staining be oil from a leaky o ring seal, burning itself on to the plug? The seals look a little glossy. I've also got to replace the cam cover gasket as there's a slight leak from the same side. Which side is it referred to as? I've seen them referred to as left and right but since the engine is from an st220 and mounted 90 degrees differently, I'm unsure which way would be glassed as left and right.
