Did somebody say disappointment? I've been a Portsmouth fan since the age of about nine when I went to Fratton Park for the first time. I should have known I was in for a bumpy ride... Pompey were then, I think, in the old Third Division and about to head for the Fourth. They've been up and down the divisions (mostly down!) ever since.
Still, as every Pompey fan will try to tell you ad nauseam, the club has held the FA Cup for a longer uninterrupted period than any other football club, having won it in 1938-9 and keeping it safe through the War until it was competed for again until 1945-6!
