Just to be clear, that report was dated 28 Oct 2012, so is not relating to the current specification wishbones. It is rather worrying to see a wishbone failure on a 2016 car. I would like to find out the reason for this.

CBM - I wish you lots of luck getting some of these breakdown costs back and hope you can make the most of your holiday after this dreadful failure.

If I had an M3W I would be very twitchy now and I'm not of a nervous disposition.

Where’s the wrap around the tube for the rubber bush that means the weld is supported?

Now I shall probably get a boll**king from the factory but from the pictures (and admittedly this is conjecture) it looks like the rear leg failed in the HAZ (heat affected zone) next to the weld for the bushing tube and the front failed because it was no longer supported by the rear
So that’s either by bad design or poor welding or insufficient material specification
Or all 3
I believe the early wishbone failures were outboard of the coilover mount and due to the bending moment because of the design

Other way round. The front failed, and the rear sheared when the vehicle was moved away from the tree that it hit.

A better solution would be to cut the inner ends of the wishbone off, weld a pair of threaded plugs in the ends and use rod end bearings as per Empire upper wishbones.

A bonus would then be adjustable camber which would dial out any manufacturing inconsistencies.

Hi,just noticed that you had the problems, as have just returned from the Aarhus Classic in Denmark.
Hope all is being sorted in Dinan?
We are in the Morbihan and the Bretagne group of the MCF have a sortie this Saturday starting at 9a.m in Rochefort en Terre.
The route goes to La Gacilly,Large Roche Bernard, Penestin and ending at the Barrage D'Arzal.
Let me know if you need any more help.
Clive

The garage in Dinan also wants a new track rod and shock absorber - either as belt and braces or because both were damaged when the vehicle was winched onto the recovery truck with straps around them. MMC thinks the parts cost alone will be £3-4000. It wouId prefer that the vehicle is shipped back to Malvern for inspection but at least I will have to find room for all the damaged parts and then get them back to MMC for inspection before any warranty compensation can be decided.

This will probably look insignificant next to Red 3's bill.

Update - MMC has told me that it has not had a wishbone failure reported to it since 2012. I will report further once the failed parts have been examined by the factory.

Hi CBM

Did you get any feedback from the factory about the wishbone failure ??
