My final question for today - i have noticed that when hard accelerating from rest the car squats down and there is a rubbing, grinding noise from underneath the rear of the car, it doesn't always happen, but i was wondering if this was common before i start jacking the car to inspect. Can anyone recommend some handling improvements that i can fit (not make the ride any stiffer though due to living in a country lane)which will also reduce the cars tendency to break my wrists if i hit a pothole Can't wait to get her out for a spin at the weekend - also note that all of my daughter's friends (between 18 - 25) think she is the coolest car ever!!!!

Grinding noises come in all shapes and sizes. It would be worth checking the propshaft isn't contacting the rear of the transmission tunnel - a not unknown fault. Do you get any sideways torque steer under hard acceleration? If so, a check of diff wear might be advisable...

Weak rear springs, tires touching reinforcement strip under wing? Can lead to cuts in the sidewall!

Thanks all, yes 1560 - mine seems to only happen when accelerating hard in first gear as well, i'll have to adjust my driving style and ride the torque instead!!!!

Touch Wood, and plenty of it about, But I have not experienced this one yet. With all of the +8's about, has no one developed a fix for this? (Spacers in the U Bolts??? )

Anti tramps might help, but as the axle twists back under torque reaction the diff nose lifts, as the rear of the car squats, that could be almost two inches of suspension compression, and the prop is very close to the top of the tunnel. You can't space the axle downwards Frank because it sits on top of the leaf springs, so U bolt spacers reduce the clearance and would make it worse.

You'll get used to me and my daft ideas. Perhaps Duffs should check the U Bolts are tight enough, remembering our 1500 mile 4/4 with stripped threads. Is there anything under there to stop the front end twistung & lifting? After 30000 miles, maybe it has twisted upwards and stuck there? Where does BHM sit in all of this???

It can only reposition itself if the springs twist permanently out of shape. This can happen over time with single or twin leaf parabolics, but very unlikely with a multileaf standard cart spring. It's a good idea to check the U bolt nuts though - as we know
