I Am new to Morgan ownership, I have just got an 1981 plus 8. It is in need of much ric, including paint. Just wondered if the colours are original?. It has a silver TUB and burgundy wings

The only way to tell would be to have a look at the overspray inside the door locks and under the upholstery. Morgan have always provided an extensive range of colours to purchasers, and the usual criteria of what is 'standard' and 'original' don't really apply to Morgans.

In Peter Morgan's time, the cars were always seen as being a starting point for the owner to work on rather than a fully-finished product, and as John Worral noted in his book 'Original Morgan', no-one would be cruel enough to restore a Morgan to the condition it was when it left the factory smile

A chassis record from the factory will give you the basic spec when the car was dispatched, including colour(s).

Silver Body and Burgundy wings with grey leather upholstery was quite a common colour scheme in the 80s and early 90s . Indeed the silver wings with contrasting colour body was used for the Roadster Lightweight competition cars in the 2000s , and this type of combination has remained popular for those who like the two tone Morgans.

If you apply to the factory quoting your chassis number , they should be able to tell you the original colour BUT don't expect an instant answer , things move at a glacial pace in Malvern.

As Tim has said "original" doesn't mean so much with Morgans as it does with other cars . If you are going to respray it then pick a colour/colours that you like , suit both your personality and and the car's , and go with that.

I wouldn't count on it though, records from that time were pretty sketchy. They couldn't even tell me what colour my 1986 car was painted, all they had was 'Red'.
