Can whisky or any spirit ever be "off" ? I didnt think so - the alcohol level prevents any bacterial /fungal action.

Actually, not really. The aromas can oxidize a bit, the alcohol can evaporate a little, but that's all. Unless you've had a bottle open for 25 years. But it doesn't get "bad" either, only boring.

Since visiting Krazy Horse last week it’s Jack Daniels for me all the way now!

Last summer I visited Tennessee and Kentucky including some distillery tours. Very nice and interesting trip. If you like American style whiskey like bourbon or rye (as I do beside Scotch and of course Irish whisky) then try also

Woodford Reserve (my favorite among the more popular once)
Makers Mark
and MB Roland (hard to get over here, small distillery but excellent stuff)
http://mbroland.com

All of them have standard and more upgrade series. And there are of course many more brands but this three are among my favourites.

I always thought of Laphroaig as being the Marmite of Scotch you either love it or loath it. It was too heavy for me. I am not a Scotch drinker but enjoy a lighter Speyside when opportunities present.

My favourites right now.

Vodka and Gins.

Do like Laphroaig, particularly when it isn't one of the older, smoother overly mellow versions that are available at a price...best version I've had was a five year old private bottling that couldn't have the word "Laphroaig" anywhere on the bottle but was sold as "Leap Frog" whisky from Islay.
On similar lines, both bottlings of Morgan ThreeWheeler single malt are excellent drams though neither could possibly exist... wink

This is why I did the original posting.

Just like Laphroaig, Morgans have been dividing opinion since almost as far back.

To paraphrase my original posting of the statement on the back of the Laphroaig packaging.

"The Morgan traditional English sports car has always kept itself a bit remote, like the Islanders of Malvern themselves. A touch aloof at first, but make the effort, broach acquaintance and you'll have a warm and genuine friend for life."

Damn it, I must get out of this romantic phase. It's not good for my image.

If they ever did exist, they have gone now...well, the bottles are still here.. Sigh.
