Jay,
Yes, I hadn't thought about acceleration, just top speed. I'm firmly in your camp when it comes to anything to do with ECU's, the very title fills me with fear and trepidation that's why I leave well alone.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

I don’t pretend to know anything about the workings of an ECU. All I know is that you can buy off the shelf ones to fit to say a 2 litre Duratec in a kit car and as well as run the engine it also provides feeds to instruments etc. I have no idea why you can’t just strip the ECU out of a Morgan and replace it with a new one. Ok, you might hit snags with immobilisers for example but nothing that can’t be worked around. Or am I being rather simplistic?

I can imagine that this is feasible, but direct injection is quite complicated. A control unit designed for the old Duratec will not make it.

Hello, yes it's all about acceleration not top speed !
If the taxes was not so huge in Tintin's country I had buy a 3,7 Roadster, it's only 7 k€ more (which is less that the local taxes needed to put it on the road only for the first year..).
Of course the ECU for a normal Duratec will never work with a direct injection but there are ECU for direct injection and twin variable camshaft timing like the Delta GDI one
https://www.scs-delta.co.uk/ford-ecoboost-ecu 195 HP from a standard 2.0 l Ford GDI (ti-vct).
The open question is what about the CANBUS that (may?) give the info for the various gauges and dials, the immobilizer and the wiring... In one sentence: how build the wiring interconnection between the legacy ECU connectors and the new one, especially if your house is at 500 km oversea from the new ECU provider ...
No local voluntary ? 😉
Maybe at the end if I want more power without more taxes it will be smarter to sell my Plus4 GDI and find a SuperSport toy, one of the 60 build in 2011 with the OMEX engine and 200 HP... and LHD if it exist 🤔

Dada, at least four or five LHD have been built of the Supersport, I had one of them.

I'd better say they weren't built, but were directly converted as a new car by dealers.
