Drone experiment

Today my daughter practised flying a drone, and I assisted by driving the Morgan up and down the road. Hope you enjoy the images and the video: https://youtu.be/Fg6Y2Obepjk

Very nice that is excellent quality, the windmill is nice, has it a function or purely decorative.

Blimey your road is as straight as a can be not much like Devon.

Richard,
normally they pump water up hill from one dyke to another.

Bert is that Kinderdijk?

Thanks for the responses.
From 1610 to 1612 about 50 windmills pumped the water out of the inland see. This reclaimed land is called de Beemster and is located about 30 km north of Amsterdam. So this is not Kinderdijk (closer to Rotterdam).
Once land has been reclaimed, one needs on ongoing pumping effort to prevent flooding. Hence, the windmills remained in use. Behind the windmill you see a dike (we call them dijk in Dutch, and yes, we keep calling them like that as we speak Dutch) the water is pumped over that dike behind which is a canal that circels the polder and transports the water away. Over time, windmills were replaced by steam, diesel and electrical driven pumps. Over time mant windmills were demolished. The ones that survive are being cherished by volunteers, who keep the running. Once, land was reclaimed, it is devided up in rectangular plots, so they could be sold. With that comes straight roads.
Hope this aswers your questions.
Flying a drone is bound to strict rules, e.g. Proximity of airport. So we had to go to this area to fly, and a nice excuse to get the Morgan in the same picture with a windmil. I take the Morgan to this area regularly. BTW, not all roads are straight, though! The canals around the polders, particularly the older polders, have nice curvy roads, with nice 17th century farms and villages.
Cheers,
Bert

Bert, that area is favourite of mine. At first I thought this was the same windmill - it’s actually the Schermerhorn.

So much better on a bicycle though. Unfortunately, I don’t have another gratuitous shot of my Brompton so this will have to do laugh2

Bert,
agree on the curvy roads. when I lived in Den Haag & commuted to Vlaardingen on my Moto Guzzi Le Mans I always went along the dijk from Massluis for the bends.

Hi Bert

I have a great affection for Holland having lived there in the '70s

I lived on an inland island called De Kaag where a 4 min ferry connected you with the mainland!!!

You will know this island..it is where a famous luxury boat builder builds super yachts for the mega rich.

I visit every March on my birthday with my son Theo (Dutch name!!)..My daughter is called Mieke (Dutch name!!!) and one of my Airedales was called Jaap (Dutch name !!)

Can you tell I have a great affection for the Netherlands !!

Tot Ziens !!!
