After returning from a few thousand miles Mog driving in the UK and France I took my 7 out for a short drive here and was shocked at the comparitive responsiveness, but that just made me laugh as I love the trad plus 8 (and the seats are much roomier) -different horses for different courses, though I am not against a little suspension upgrading a la SSL.

You cannot compare Morgan Trads to Caterham, Westfield etc etc etc.

IMHO the "Caterfields" are more a Mid Life Crisis or Wannabe Racer car whereas the Morgan is more an acknowledgement that you can still have a lot of driving fun whilst still retaining a very stylish outlook.

If you want to go fast, get a Caterham and go on a race track. If you want to have fun at slightly more sensible real road speeds, get a Morgan.

I think I would probably look slightly sad at my age still riding my Ducati 996. (and I'd probably kill myself if I started to ride it at anything like the speed it deserves on normal roads)

By the way, anyone under the age of 60 should probably ignore my comments.

Lets not forget that with some ( Ok quite a few) tweaks, a Morgan 4/4 canbe made into a Caterham tyre car with the responsiveness etc.

Not from the factory I accept, but I had a ride in a 4/4 last year that handled every bit as sharply as a similar engine Caterham. That was the café Racer of Cain @ Wolf Performance.

I prefer the Morgan hands down to the Westfield/Caterham but accept they serve up pure driving fun for a lot less cash.

So that's the point really - a Morgan is fun at all speeds and is great to amble along in as it is to have a spirited drive.

But then we get into the realms of image and the like. Picture the stereotypical Morgan driver and compare that to your idea of a Caterham driver. Very different people? I think so.

Put another way - I had a Westfield owner in for an MOT yesterday and we were discussing this very point - comparing Lotus 7 type cars to Morgans.

He said Morgans were for "well-healed old duffers who couldn't drive properly and no longer made love to their wives or girlfriends!"

At which point I explained I owned a Morgan, was not well off, and not that old either at 50. I have to concede that I can no longer make love and drive properly at the same time anymore...……

He passed the MOT as well.

It’s no secret I love my 4/4 even though Kenny is right and mine has all the same flaws.

Maybe it’s the environment I drive it in, maybe I’m not that great a driver, but if the weather is sunny, the Morgan is the car I use the most.

Maybe this is it....It’s the slowest car I own and If I drove any of the other cars I have the way I drive the 4/4, I’d be locked up!

I must admit, at 50 it’s hard making love to the wife and the girlfriend

Maybe he has a point

I would have thought they could have managed it being "well healed" implying good health now "well heeled" maybe not as likely something might get damaged grin2 .

My impression of a Caterham was being able to see under heavier road traffic, sitting level with big wheel hubs, down below the eye line of all other road users.
To see and be seen is the principal factor governing road safety.
