Hi, my dipped beam is not working on my 1995 +8. The main beam is fine. I'm assuming it's a relay or fuse, since both lights are not working. Any help appreciated.

As its common to both lights it could be the dipped beam contact broken in the switch?

Are the dipped beams fused collectively or individually as on latest cars? If the former worth checking the fuse even if its only remaking the contact.

I don't know if they are fused collectively, as there is no indication of which fuse is which. They are also a pain to get to, as they are tucked up under the dash. Anyway, I'll go through them all.

Dim-dip unit, if it has not been disconnected by a previous owner.
Pretty sure left and right headlights have separate fuses.

On 1980's cars there was no dim-dip module and no relays either so the steering column switches are very prone to burning their contacts leaving just the main beam working.

I don't know when they started fitting dim-dips and relays but this might be worth checking.

In my 94 +8 I had the issue of the lights going out when I went to high beam. Wear in the switch over time had caused the contacts to not connect. Took the switch off cleaned the contacts and reset, all works fine now.

Thanks, I've owned the car for 13 years and have had no problem up to now, so I'll look at the dim dip unit. Do you know if this is behind the dash ?

Reading posts above it doesn't sound like you have a dip unit or relay just the actual column dip switch. Suggest you fit a relay though after you have sorted the switching problem to reduce current through those ageing dip switch contacts.
