Help

I was out on a track day yesterday in preparation for my first race in the club sport and went over a section of curb.

This upset the inertia switch and killed all the power. Not want you want when on track.

Does anyone know how the switch is wired as I’d like to wire in a by pass switch so it can be isolated while being used on track?

I can understand it being necessary for a road car which the club sport is so clearly don’t want to remove the switch.

Cheers

John

I would have thought it is more important to have the inertia switch fully operational on the track, where exhausts are a lot hotter and there's a greater risk of collision

The car has a manual isolator which can be reached from inside the car, I’m more worried about losing all power and getting whacked from behind.

Ideally moving the isolator from the bulkhead under the bonnet would work or by passing the road going unit with a less sensitive unit that could be reset while strapped into the seat.

You could bypass the inertia switch for racing by putting a set of normally closed contacts of a switch across the 2 contacts of the inertia pair, you could then switch the new switch off (open) to enable the inertia switch for road use. Probably a pair of White with Purple tracer wires at the inertia switch if they have kept the same colour code as mine.

John several of the M3W boys and girls have made similar arrangements for road use it seems as they trip out for a pastime.
