I've done a couple of airfield / sprint days, where there are a couple of heavy braking zones 80/90mph down to 10mph, and been a bit disappointed with the brakes on the Aero, they didn't seem to have any initial bite, which surprised me as I've had AP calipers on several other cars and they've worked well.
I asked RTCC to fit a set of Mintex 1144 pads last time the car was in, crikey what a difference, nearly put myself through the screen first time I used them, have to be very gentle at walking pace, but the car stands on its nose when used in anger, great upgrade, only downside is a bit of squeal at low speeds, but I'll live with that.

Nice to hear about the improved performance, shame about the squeal though - I am wanting to change my pads as the standard ones squeal terribly and feel quite wooden.. but after so much squealing I don't think I could put up with anymore or I might develop a *twitch* laugh2

Have you found any pads which don't squeal at low speed Nick? I have the same issue and it drives me nuts. Only way to stop it is to stand it on its nose which does cause a lot of squealing noises behind me instead.

The S1 to S2 change bought larger discs as the earlier ones did warp under heavy duress. I think RTCC offer an upgrade for this using the S2 discs and pads if you want to lean on them a lot more.

I messaged Nick re. my experience with pads on the Aero.Mine had new pads on when purchased but they squealed very badly.

From memory, I got EBC Red Stuff pads. The Ref. was DP3036C,2000-2004 Yr. - they were approx. £90 plus.

I think the 'feel' of the brakes was improved, albeit not massively. The noise was certainly a lot less! A side benefit was that there is now hardly ever any brake dust on the wheels.....

Thanks guys. Will ask my local dealer about the pads. The discs were warped but skimmed a few weeks back and seem fine now but still with squeal. Pads have plenty of meat on them bu t think I might go with replacing them with the pads you mentioned James just to get rid of the pet hamster!

Now the search is on for a replacement rear wheel bearing! Think I'll have an entire new system by the end of this.

Gents, an update, the squealing of my new pads (mintex 1144) has reduced to almost nothing, I' suspect that the squealing is due to pad contact with clean discs (when new pads are installed the discs should be cleaned of all old pad material), material from the new pads is then transferred to the discs during use, this appears to reduce the squealing, which was really only occurring When braking from very low speeds.

good plan Kevin;my 'new' pads had loads of meat on them and it was a shame to replace them. The new, virtually noiseless pads were however, well worth it !

Have you tried Mark (Middleton) re. a rear wheel bearing?

He is ex-factory service dept. and did one of my front ones last year.

He is at - Buryend Farm, Upton on Severn, WR8 0NJ. Tel 07880 722638

Usual applies;no connection, etc., just a happy customer thumbs

Thanks again guys. Will try Mark Middleton James as my local dealer said they had real problems getting a bearing for the last customer who had this issue.

Hopefully he will be able to do supply only as a long way to go from Perth.

I did try Holdens but no luck and they said they had just received a long list of series 1 parts from the factory that were now discontinued.
