Your dash will be plastic Craig, I would very gently warm the area with a heat gun and then try the fishing line behind it. Naa, its painted marine ply, seen 'em in the paint shop, that's why they match the body colour Oops when I had my 2009 4/4 Sport I always thought it was plastic and I ran it for 4 years and 24,000 miles  ..

Craig, if you manage to peel off the old one and there's a bit of surface damage you could order the proper factory clock, hole saw the hole and drop the 'proper' clock in
Worked well for me with an early Roadster, the power supply is already there tucked up behind the dash Several suppliers on Ebay offering Smiths clocks for around £60. They look same as factory ones and keep time well. Plenty of room behind dash to enable varying positioning. Wiring loom (certainly on 2011 models) already has generous length wires for clock supply and backlight holder. Drill hole with 50mm holesaw, running slowly in reverse first to avoid chipping veneer. Hole may be a bit tight but the last mm or so, easily finished off and widened out with a flap wheel abrasive.

Craig, an alternative to fishing line is dental floss......seriously! With some gentle heat it should come off easily leaving a bit of residue adhesive pad. A gentle rub with meths will get that off.

Thanks for that Deejay, I’m ok with the cutting side, I’m a carpenter and joiner by trade so I’m quite used to hole saws and routers etc, but when it comes to the wiring, I’m not so good....

Are Cain's clocks not surface mounted..? I mean, with a flat rear. The mounting plate looks flat enough..

Are Cain's clocks not surface mounted..? I mean, with a flat rear. The mounting plate looks flat enough.. Not quite. The clock itself mounts to a backing plate via 4 tiny little capscrews, and the backing plate has an M6 (from memory) CSK setscrew to allow it to be bolted to wherever it's mounted. I suspect you could dispense with it and rely on double-sided tape instead, but I used the bolt on my dash.

Thanks for that Deejay, I’m ok with the cutting side, I’m a carpenter and joiner by trade so I’m quite used to hole saws and routers etc, but when it comes to the wiring, I’m not so good.... Wiring is a doddle as the correct size spade terminals and lamp holder are already attached to the loom. The positive and earth leads have different sizes so you cant go wrong.
