I don't think the dominance of the car takes it away from Lewis.

One of the reasons I believe he is one of the greats is his back story and the fight his whole family had to get him to where he became noticed and started with the McLaren development team.

If Bottas had been the number one driver for Mercedes then I don't think we would be saying the Merc is dominant.

I wonder what would have happened if Ferrari had Hakkinen as number one and Merc had Botas ?

Maybe a Red bull driver would be World Champion. (Maybe too unreliable this season)

These days F1 is at such extreme levels that only a great driver in a great car is going to win the Championship.

You only get the best car, engines, and team if you're the best. Lewis H is quite brilliant in a car and one of the best of all time. And despite the hype he's an incredibly grounded character. Well done Sir!!

And just to add to Fox Terrier's observation. I get much more out of the sport now that I see it as a team sport. I can see the agony of the poor guy/gal who makes the wrong call on when to bring-em-in or the pit-crew member who fumbles the tyre change or the engineer who sees his engine die. And then we have the dazzling technology and science which underpins the whole thing. But in the end a driver pulls on the gloves, steps into a car and goes out and does magic - not always, perhaps not often, but definitely sometimes - and for me that makes it all worthwhile. To come to your television and expect a thrill-a-minute from pseudo-heroes is to miss the art and the heart of the sport.

However, the whole F1 thing needs a serious re-think...it is very very dull

I don’t particularly like Hamilton....I think he’s too up his own arse if you will excuse the expression......but I do respect him for his driving skills. He is probably the most focussed of all the drivers.

This year I’ve not watched a single Grand Prix ......for the first time I find that there’s no excitement.

Brilliant, I think. At times, very tense but a superbly presented season by C4, and I'm so glad the country has a sportsman we can truly say has earned his reward, with no drugs, no controversy and some excellent humility when it's required.

Not sure how anyone can describe the F1 circus as being dull, or boring. Strategy, timings, rules, breakdowns, tyres, crashes and so much more.

Best year to date, I reckon.

Stayed up to watch the highlights last night, and sat until the wee small hours with a single malt.

I can't wait for next year and will be keeping my fingers crossed for him all season long, looking forward to him surpassing Schumacher's records in the following year.

It's taken me a few years to really get into the "whole team" and strategy game but I thoroughly enjoy it now particularly when monkey midget Jordan is absent from the commentary team.

Not too sure how I will get to watch it next year but I certainly will as long as it doesn't involve paying that crook Murdoch.

Even Hamilton has said that it’s become boring and needs some spicing up.

I’ve been an F1 enthusiast most of my life from the very early 70s but the technology these days makes it very artificial in my view. When you see drivers sawing away at steering wheels and drifting round corners neck to neck at Goodwood it makes this years F1 quite boring. Now if they introduced narrower tyres, no drs etc it would be more interesting.

My heart went out to Daniel Kerry, boy he has had some rough luck this year, and so much talent there I truly hope the Renault move is good to him and not another Alonso move.
