You forget the slow puncture I had on RTA several years ago, on the way to Scotland.
I have since had another, on the present car but Paul Harris suspects that may have been due to a tube fault that took a long time to appear.

Ok thanks, I see your point regarding ribbed inside surface, why do tubed tyres require tubes when fitted to tubless wheels , is something to do with the way they seal around the wheel ?

I have tubeless wires but they still recommend fitting tubes to my tyres, is this just extra insurance i wonder ?
talking of michelins i saw longstone at the NEC and they had what i consider the right tyre for my car, michelin pilot x 16"
but £350 each, a big leap if i dont like the way they drive. Is this on the "C" Al, surely you don't need new tyres yet? If you do, try Blockley, they were doing 5.50x16 for around £150 a pop.

The XAS’s require tubes although my wire wheels don’t. My question to longstones was whether even tubeless rims require any rim bands but apparently not as the silicone on the rim does the same job.
The issue is sometimes the quality of the tube material, can be iffy as a lot of other rubber parts these days. The classic guys are often heard moaning about rack gaiters and similar failing well before their time because of the poor quality rubber used.
Anyway, job done on mine and at £12 all in I can’t grumble!

Yep, it's all about the seal with the rim. Morgan spoked wheels used to need tubes in the days when the spokes weren't sealed and there was just some rim tape to protect the inner tube. Nowadays they are sealed with a layer of silicone and so you can use tubeless tyres.

Yes Tim, XAS. Worn evenly though which is always a good sign.
About the rate my tyres use to wear back in the late 60s. 😈 Ah yes  Late 60s, company car (Holden Torana S), 30 miles of lovely windy road to get to the office, another 30 miles to get home, a driver who thought that he was the "drift king", an new set of Michelin radials, and having to explain to the boss that they must have been defective to wear out in only 8,000 miles  Made the otherwise boring daily commute a lot of fun though

In my teens I thought it fun to drive apeverywhere with wheels spinning and drifts. My poor mother had to fund the tyre replacements in those days...she assumed they all wore at the same rate 🙄

Me too. A start without wheelspin was disappointing.
I broke my first Midget leaf spring on day 1 of ownership, and that's where my spanner work really began in ernest.

I hope you lot are not attributing my rapid tyre wear down to hooligan driving in my AH 😳 it’s french rubber I reckon..
