A word of warning where the steering column exit's from the inside, that box around it was chafing through the wiring harness. Something to keep an eye on. Nothing to do with your work Dave, that's great as always. On my 07 4/4.

Dave,
I notice your track rod end comes in to the steering arm from below whereas my 4/4 comes in from above. I.e. your tapered pin points up to the nut, mine points down. Do you know why they vary. Something to do with bump steer I think but what specifically?
Also the splitter I use is useless. What do you use?

Bob. My splitter is nothing special. Its unbranded from the 1980s. Just a simple cast U shape with a single bolt.
The track rods changed in 2005. The revised set up levels the trackrods and eliminates bump steer.
It can be done on some earlier cars. The stub axle arms need reverse tapering.

It can be done on some earlier cars. The stub axle arms need reverse tapering. I know Mulfab offer this service but they seem to suggest that they move the track rod from bottom to top to reduce bump steer. See below from their Website. "Bump Steer Correction We offer a machining service to minimise the bump steer inherent in the Sliding pillar front suspension on Morgans At some point in the early 2000's the Morgan Factory swapped the track rod end from above to below the steering arm. We remachine the stub axle to allow fitment of the track rod end back on top of the steering arm. This then minimises the excess toe out that can occur under hard cornering, making the front of the car feel very nervous. We will need your stub axles to carry out this modification" I'm confused because mine is already on top so have Mulfab got it the wrong way round? Is it best on top or below to minimise bump and roll steer?

Ah well I believe that the stub axles were also changed.
They were in 05/06 because the first owner of my Roadster had the stubs changed.
There may have been earlier changes.
Look how horizontal your track rods are in static position and take a view.

You don’t want to have the track rods level to reduce bump steer They should be as close as possible to perpendicular to the king pin

Track rod about 5 degree. King Pin Inclination about 2 degree so 3 degree even before any bump.
I think below the steering arm would be better.

Simon @ SiFab.co.uk I thought it was level with the ground. But as Simon states "Perpendicular to the king pin makes more sense. As My track rods are sloping slightly up with the rod end on top - maybe a problem. I drilled the cone out and use Rod Ends with a SAE thread bolt, sourced from Pegasus Racing, so they can be attached either on top or on the bottom of the stub axle. I will switch them back to the bottom and see if this solves My bump steer.
