Hi Everyone,
Sunday weather was glorious so went for a drive around the lanes north of Tamworth.
But after twenty years of Morgan ownership it's crunch time.....either the rattles go or the car goes.
So, notwithstanding existing anti rattle strips around the bonnet and rubbers around the doors I have set to work on what will be a never ending task, rattle eradication.
To start with windscreen. On my car it folds on pivots and everything seems to need "stiffening", especially to stop the connecting block for the electric element squeaking on the leather dash roll, squeak, squeak, squeak.
Then we have the hood, a hybrid lift a dot at the screen but a fixed hoop at the rear. The two catches at the rear are useless. No matter if they are adjusted for a tight or loose fit they release within a mile of driving, hood up or down...rattle, rattle, rattle.
Then we have the MMC rack with the tubes fitted near the overriders, rattle, retold, rattle
I will let you know what happens but any suggestions for other places to look will be appreciated.
Regards for now
Geof

Geof, a couple of suggestions
Rub a bit of liquid leather conditioner on the windscreen heater block & wires
For the hood catches, I use a PTFE based dry lube sprayed down each hole, as it sounds like the sliding catch is not properly engaging with the 'prong', with the rear of the hood out of the way look down the holes as you pull the release lever and check to see the sliders are working, with the spare wheel out you can access the mechanisms
Good look

Reg, damn, I forgot about that.
Jon, will certainly give the conditioner a try. Re the catches, they are working ok and are greased up. However, I will strip grease as best as possible and try your PTFE lube (and re-adjust release cable at same time if necessary).
Thanks for imput.

Geof If you can hear rattles then the exhaust is too quiet.

B*gg*r, I had new aids only last week!!
But how clever are MMC. My car was built in 2006 and represents a 1995 model. Not only have they got all the design characteristics of that year but all the rattles as well.

I've heard genuine English rattles are getting too expensive & they are now often bought off fleabay from an offshore source and delivered in a damp bag

No doubt aggravating but it’s a 12 year old car and 2 out of the 3 are aftermarket modifications or fitments, is that really MMCs fault?
