My first street-legal car was a green Allegro 1.3, complete with 70's-tastic orange furry seat covers and the unmistakeable imprint of a pair of ladies stiletto shoes in the roof lining above the rear seats. We didn't dare remove the seat covers.

Good car though. Reliable, cheap to run, I commuted it daily 30 miles each way to Bristol and back for a year or so with no problems at all.

Fascinating there is more interest in the Allegros than the TRs. It will be Austin Princess next. Or maybe even a Marina! scared

I think the Maxi was probably the most under rated and under developed BL car.

Although we had a V4 Corsair 2000E in the family for a while and that was a cracking car.

The TR4 is a very capable, strong and comfortable classic, that with a few tweaks can also be a competitive rally car.

Ditch the standard seats, get some retro buckets fitted and as they mount closer to the floor - make for a comfier more spacious cabin.

Very underrated machines...

No..my Mum had one and it was the last car in which I did a top overhaul in 1985. It drove nicely, far better than the Hillman Avenger.
I rather like the look of the 1.7 with twin headlamps.

No they were ok , problem was BL was short of funds and this resulted in rust problems and design wasn't the best but the Princess was given a good press by the Motoring journo's when it came out. Lets face it there were labour problems at BL and quality suffered , it was a horrible end to a lot of famous names .

I used to have a TR3A and loved the car but rust killed it whenI was about 19. I would love another one but am afraid of rust. Can a good one be protected from rust these days.
