I live in a hard water area and non use of the washers can result in the pump "furring" up.

Sharp tap may get it going again otherwise...new pump.

As always a bit of regular use always helps.

As for the dirty water....ugh! Very scary

Salmo, save the water from a dehumidifier to use in the washer bottle (I add a splash of methylated sprit)

Thanks John, very useful.

Chemistry is not my strong point but, presumably, water from rotary dryer does the same thing?

Or you can use deionised water if you use that for ironing or SWMBO does.

Not too sure what a 'rotary drier' is but basically if the water collected is condensed from the air it will be 'soft' like distilled water for topping up old style batteries or steam irons, so you won't get the hard water fur which blocks your pump

Hi Jon,

My chemistry is as good as my identification of household items!

My wife has told me a rotary drier is a clothes line in the garden. I should have said "tumbler drier".

Considering I don't know how any household items work, cooker, microwave cooker, washing machine, dishwasher etc, I thought I had done rather well.
