40 years ago my dad worked for Dennis (the fire engine people). His hobby, along with the Dennis apprentices, was looking after their two 1914 Dennis Fire Engines and one 1936 Fire Tender. I would join him on his journeys to local fairs, shows, London to Brighton, etc and so I become very familiar with these three fire engines. For example it would take 15 man hours to polish all the brass.

About five years ago we were in the Lakeland motor museum, and tucked away in a corner, forgotten, was the rarest of the two 1914 fire Engines, being fitted with wooden wheels and solid tyres. None of it shone any more: the brass was copper coloured; the fire engine red was dull, nobody cared. I was very close to walking over the rope and give it a polish, I could not leave the room, it wanted/needed someone to give it TLC. If I lived closed I would have volunteered to be its carer.

My only wish is that it has now gone to a good home, if not, it is top of my agenda WHEN I win The Lottery

I knew a man who moved house so that he could buy a vintage bus (coach). I also knew twins who bought an ex army flatbed, and an airport fire tender which had an XK engine to power the water pump.
I must say that old Fire engines are very appealing. In fact most old stuff is appealing. But only when it's on the road.

Indeed. It would be nice to have the wooden wheel Dennis on the road. Mind you it has a 7.2 lt. 4 cylinder engine that you need to hand-crank.

Dressing up also has merit........

Looking at the pic of the DHC made me think MMC should put it back into production, especially now suicide doors are back in vogue [RR Phantom / RX8 / Mini Clubman etc]

I discussed this with them awhile back and the cost is simply prohibitive. The DHC was a sales failure in the original incarnation, my guess is it would be similar today due to the increase in price over the standard model.

If time and tide allow me to reach the day when there is no usable fuel system left and the car is not worth a bean, then a 'Spitfire' type angled plinth will see the P&J in the front drive as a monument to better days. That's the plan anyway Perhaps I would just sit in her there and dream (roof down of course)

I think that occurred,we would be taking your Morgan away from you and finding alternative method of keeping it on the road.
