My pal Ian sold his Morgan 4/4 in 1964 as the Army posted him to Kenya. After more than a few years he has concluded that it is time to return as sailing has become a bit of a faff... not the sailing, but the before season and after season work that goes with a classic wooden yacht. So the boat will go and a 4/4 will replace it. Today I went with him to introduce him to Tim Ayres at New Elms. Tim has a couple of old 4/4s in the wings... so Ian will go back in the new year to test... but in the meantime Tim sent us off in a F registered +4, as a re-introduction to the world of Morgan. What fun.. I'd forgotten just how nice a good +4 is. Quick enough, comfortable and just nice. Smiles all the way. Can't think of a better way to spend a bright and sunny December day, to be honest. Ian's journey will be fun to share. He lives only a coupe of miles from me and has a brilliant workshop that is tall enough to take a 2 post lift! More on this adventure as it happens

Peter. To my mind the Anniversary Plus 4 with the narrow tyres is the best of both worlds. Good handling, light steering, and comfortable torque for longer trips.

Peter,
thanks, I'll pass on your advice. He has an absolute budget of £25k, preferably £20k, so this may limit options.
Ian is very much a hands on DIY person, so isn't daunted by something that needs TLC.

If the "narrow tyres" don't put him off, I would seriously consider a Zetec 4/4 so that he can get the later long door model with Stainless steel bulkhead and rack and pinion steering. Easily under £25,000.
Then as funds and time allow tune the Zetec to get +4 type performance.
If he's hands on, £2500 will cover the upgrade.

I was tempted into my present Plus 4 via Perranwell because the Cornish couple who owned it had taken up sailing and were not using the car much, so swings and roundabouts

I suspect that if I had one of those rather than the Roadster, I would have stayed with Morgan Peter. I drove one several times whilst at the factory and in my view the perfect Morgan Trad.

Plus 4's are the dogs swingers, great fun with minimal fuel consumption, good comfort, brilliant heater for top down in the winter and fast enough to get places. Can't do better IMHO.
Here for a good time not a long time!!

I can see the attraction having had a +4. We find the Roadster S1 suits us better but we do a lot of long tours.
Mind you a good +4 as a second Mog would be nice. Alas the CFO disagrees!

The plus four is a great car for touring and good mpg however the Roadster gives you a Waw , the 3.7 bloody hell theres a corner coming up quick, and the Aero strap in and hold on to your hat.
