"I wonder if the SSL clamping is indexed to the back axle in any way." YES, would we do it any other way:
1. The brackets are prevented from spinning around the axle by the lumps underneath of the axle that sit on the leaf spring.
2. The brackets can not move fore and aft as the 10mm bolts are tangential to the axle tube.
3. The brackets can not move sideways as the 10mm through bolts touch either side of the lump underneath the axle.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of driving Molly, Peter Ballards 4/4 development car.
As some will recall, I had the SSL front end fitted to Aldermog, and felt it worthwhile.
Now Molly is not really representative of the typical narrow body short door 4/4 as she has a 2.0L Mondeo engine and gearbox, with about 130bhp. Also +4 front brakes and of course, SSL's front and rear suspension.
If I had any doubts about the value of the 5 link back end they have been totally dispelled. Molly is a very "together" Morgan that rides almost as well as my Aero Plus 8, the car talks to you and the torque rich engine is flexible and responsive.
Yes, if I was to venture back to a small, trad Mog I'd want the SSL front and rear suspension fitted!

Just a quick post with a real-life experience for anyone reading this thread considering the 5 link. I had the front SSL kit fitted to my Plus 4, which made a big difference and was good value for money. The rear, however, which was fitted a month later, was a complete waste of money. It made practically no difference; if anything, the ride is slightly harder and I preferred the car as it was.
It may be that my (2019) car had a relatively decent ride quality anyway for some reason such that I didn't notice the difference, whereas an older car would benefit more the 5-link. I don't know, because mine is the only Morgan that I've ever driven. In any event, the rear 5-link is certainly not transformational, which it should be for the money.
