Had this afternoon free so thought I'd start taking the wheels off to give the insides a good clean, polish and seal.

This is my first experience with centre lock wheels so didn't know what to expect in terms of the amount of force necessary to remove the knock off's. I'd already bought an aluminium socket tool thing and breaker bar for such a task.

My god! shocked2 I had to check several times that I was going in the right direction. It wouldn't budge. I ended up digging out the OEM spanner and hammer and after some quite brutal violence it gave way. Should it be that hard or had the dealer been over zealous last time the wheels came off?

Anyway, back to the point of the thread. Despite the low miles on the car, the inside of the wheel I removed (doing one at a time) was pretty grubby.
Some jet washing and elbow grease later and I was surprised and disappointed to find that the inside face of the wheel appeared to have been painted by Stevie Wonder with a rattle can who had then preceded to manhandle the wheel whilst the paint was still wet! banghead Not great.

I've got one of these wheels on order as a spare and been charged an arm and a leg for it. All I can say is that the finish is a damned site better than this or it will be going straight back...

That really is dreadful.

At first I thought someone had just over-sprayed some old wheels then I saw that it was an almost new car..

I think they must just have a standard wheel and then just do a quick paint job to match the colour scheme.

No wheel manufacturer would send them out like that.

Such a shame on a New Morgan. The sad part is someone at the factory, probably with paint on their fingers said Yea, that's OK out the door with it...... ooo

The centre lock nuts will grab on the paint and stick. When I had black wheels I almost always had to put the blowlamp on the centre-nut to get it off.

Stainless wires don't stick as its metal to metal.

Dont know about blow lamp but most alloys stick badly if on the car for say 30k miles and 3 years. The answer is a kettle of hot water on the wheel.

The centre-locks are self-tightening too, so that may explain some of the force necessary to release the nuts.
Paint not impressive.

Why didn't the final inspection in the factory pick this up or the PDI at your dealership?

No guarantee of course that it left the factory like that, although one would hope that it hadn't needed a repaint in the intervening 2+ years. Whomever did the last paint on it, there should not be fingerprints in it!
