What about "Allo Allo"

Same writers, similar era but not a French or German actor in sight. (IIRC)

Now that I loved. I bought the DVD box set a few years ago because my French wife hadn’t heard of it. After watching a few episodes she clearly wasn’t finding it as funny as me, following some people questions I found out that she only hears English rather than accents, so all of the nationalities speaking English sounded the same to her. That does make sense because I can’t differentiate between different French accents . When you think about it it’s partly the exaggerated (?) accents that make it work. One good thing to come out of it though is that she will regularly say to me “listen very carefully, I will say this only once”

Well there you go. Every day a school day. Still didn't make it funny in my eyes though.

But hey, chacun a son gout and all that. I found 'Allo 'Allo and Dad's Army hilarious, but IAHHM left me cold.

I never found it funny either, I don’t think I’m a (62 year old) snowflake because it’s not that it’s not p.c. (what was in those days?) it just didn’t make me laugh. I guess humour is very much like cars, what appeals to some doesn’t tickle everyone’s fancy, just as well really else everybody would be driving Morgans wink

No offence meant guys - I must stop reading the Grudian grin2

I met Windsor Davies in the bar of the Angel Hotel on Cardiff after an International rugby match. We had a tot and a chat. Great fun and, helped by a Wales win, the mood was happiness.
As for the tv show....it was over the top characterisation with a few funny bits. All kinds of predictable characters from upper class twits as officers to social, racial, gender type casting and acting.
Dad’s Army is on repeats at the moment and still makes me laugh. Allo’Allo’ had archi typical characters too but again is brilliant.
You tube is a good place to watch programmes that would now be dodgy. Benny Hill....Dick Emery...Kenny Everrett.....even old Top of the Pops! ( if only to see examples of the then acceptable(?) portrayal of the audience.
