Though I asked the dealer to fit bonnet props when I bought my car, I notice that there is no proper place to locate them under the bonnet,other than the mount for the rear locking knob;this makes it easy for the stay to be nudged free,so dropping the bonnet down hard!
what do people do here?
nothing matters very much, and hardly anything matters at all.

Poke the rod end of the prop into the top(rear when up )of the spring between the back of the spring and the catch itself -- it is a bit of a push, but means the prop is firmly placed and will not come free of its own accord!

My chosen solution for the straight Rod version was a set of toy arrows. I had to pack out the rod and used a dab of silicone to adhere. Moisten & Stick and they hold the Rod End nice and firm.

Cheers Better still, do some measuring, mark with engineer's blue and then gently file down the circumference of the stay end. As Robbie says, it's a bit of a tight fit otherwise but if you do this it should work very well  G

 I love the rubber sucker solution! I bought a couple of bonnet props from a breakers for a couple of quid, and then glued a piece of rubber hose onto the end of each to locate each prop to one of the bonnet catch bolts. They're then secured with elastic bands which my postman is always dropping on the drive.
