Woke up this morning to find that the world has suddenly changed to black and white.

Had to go 10 km to our local town for a medical appointment and took 's Polo (otherwise known as the "shopping trolley") because it has the Michelin CrossClimate tyres fitted. So does the Plus 4 actually but the gritters have been out and I don't fancy getting it covered in salty grit.

The main road was clear but the other roads had a couple of inches of snow on them.

I have to say that the CrossClimate tyres are just brilliant. I tried to make them loose grip on the snow covered back roads a couple of times under cornering (with safety space), acceleration and braking just to see how they behaved. I really couldn't fault them and would have to be doing something really stupid to get into trouble. To me the grip was only fractionally worse than if it was just a wet road and they are good in the wet too.

I can definitely recommend them as an all year round tyre on an every day car. They are fine on the Morgan but if you only use the Mog on fine sunny days there are probably better choices. I'm happy with them on the Plus 4 as an all weather touring tyre plus they comply with our regulations for the winter season.

Doesn't surprise me that Michelin's offering in this department should be good.

Their Pilot Alpin tyres have long been the reference for winter tyres in my experience.

Steve . They fight like cat and dog . But one of the most human things was when the two lads from Newcastle that where killed in that plane crash abroad by sick vermin with bombs . Several lads from Sunderland went to St James park ( Newcastle ) with a wreath and money that Sunderland fans had collected and lay it on the pitch. Very moving I thought.

ps Only went to 1 football match in 1965 with a big lad and the "+&*$%^! stood in front of me the 1st half and again the 2nd half . 90 mins looking at his back . Never been near a football pitch since and I can see one from our window . But enjoyed Rugby . As a young man.

The test I read in one of the French motoring mags of the Crossclimate when they first came out found that in snow, acceleration and braking performance weren't far off that of the Pilot Alpin; it was only in cornering traction that the full on winter tyres were significantly better.

BTW, that tread pattern looks very similar to my tyres. I guess the main difference will be in the rubber compound.

Not very exciting, but this was us heading up to the pass at flaine yesterday on our way home in the trusty A class 4matic shod with pilot alpin tyres. Difficult conditions, but all was as steady as a steady thing.

If I understand correctly it is the depth of the tread. The CrossClimate uses a summer tyre trad depth. Probably the compound is a fraction harder than the snow tyres. I think this probably means that they will lose grip in the snow when they become somewhat consumed. I would change them a 5 years old regardless of wear.
