Chaps, Those of you who are on here regularly may recall my woeful computing skills so here I am hoping for some kind soul to help out. Apart from setting up another e-mail, is there anyway of sorting out and protecting an address that has been hacked by some bar steward. Any and all help will be gratefully accepted, right now back to the bar !!
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

Happy to chat about it. Probably faster through voice than thread/email.
It depends on what type of hack that has happened and if you want to use spam filters on your existing email account.
What is your email hosted on (Yahoo, gmail, sky etc)

Also available, if required.
How do you know your email has been hacked?

Mine was hacked a few years back. I found an extra email address had been planted in my account with a name very similar to my own. It sent messages of woe and pleas for money to everyone in my contacts list. When I went to email everyone to warn them it was a scam, found my contacts had disappeared along with my stored folders of emails. This came about when working on something else, I received a message looking like a genuine BT sign in box, asking me to re-affirm my password. I didn’t notice the fake email address that had just one letter different to my own! BT helped me remove the offending item and recovered my contacts list and folders. For the next year or so, spurious emails would still be sent to some of my contacts as i guess my contacts list was sold on to scammers.but it gradually decreased and is now non existant. BT advised that changing my email address would not solve the problem of scam emails going out with my name imprinted on them.

I am being spoofed right now as it happens. Many of my contacts are receiving emails from myfirstname.lastname with some dodgy looking .com ending.
Very annoying and I'm not sure how it's done as my address book has not been compromised.
Reg - assuming you can change the password (to something complex) for your email address, you should be secure I would have thought.

Yes I had similar and only realised one of my accounts had been hacked as a couple of friends let me know they were receiving some out of character links. As Neil said just go for a very long complex password and it should be the end of it. We shouldn't be having to do this

A friend of mine got a virus which was distributed by an apparently genuine email with a link to what on the surface of it was an innocuous Web site. The Web site had been hacked and by clicking on the link he loaded a virus on his computer which then robbed his entire contact list.
This was about 5 years or more ago but I still get dodgy emails that purport to come from him.

I had an e mail purporting to be from my own e mail address threatening to send graphic porn to all my contact if I did not transfer £70,000 to a bit coin account. I ignored it but I waited for the outcry from my contacts but thankfully nothing happened.

A couple of weeks ago our golfclub captain warned us about a bogus email supposedly sent by him. His email had been hacked. Luckily nobody got affected by it. I saw it but something didn’t appear right........ It stated he was giving us a cash gift. That was in the email preview and he is a tight git!
