Quite a few years ago, when the average person was not very computer literate, I had a client who had simply had his home page modified to a porn site.
He was very embarrassed about it but it only took a moment to fix. In those days it was pretty common for malware to make unauthorised changes to browser settings.

I get a few junk emails every day, most of them I block but some I can't because they apparently come from me !!.

I had an e mail purporting to be from my own e mail address threatening to send graphic porn to all my contact if I did not transfer £70,000 to a bit coin account. I ignored it but I waited for the outcry from my contacts but thankfully nothing happened. Maybe the recipients were happy and they enjoyed it quietly without reporting it. Just kidding.

Thank you all for your help and ideas. I had 'phone calls from friends wondering why I was sending weird 'mails. My pass word is 19 letters long, I cant think how I can make it any more secure and still remember it but I will give it a go.

You need to see the source code of the emails that are being sent. Most likely the hackers have got your contact list in some way but it is probable that they are not using your email account to send the emails. It is possible to fake in your email address as the sender.
My reaction to this, unless you have your email on letterheads and business cards, would be to open a new email account, advise all my contacts of the new email address, and put in an auto forwarder from your old to the new address. Every time a wanted email arrives on your old address I would then advise/remind the sender of you new address. After 6 months I would then cancel the old address and advise all your contacts to blacklist the old address.

There are a number of sites Such as this where you can check to see if an email account has been hacked Brian, Thank you for that, I found that my password hadn't been copied but that I had been part of an unintentional breach (?) of sites which were linked to other sites(?) I hate these bar stewards why can't they go and play in the traffic or better still an alligator infested river.

There are a number of sites Such as this where you can check to see if an email account has been hacked My Yahoo address has been hacked apparently - possibly from LinkedIn which had a data breach some while ago. I have changed its password. Thanks.
