Many of the "next generation" fibre installers are using a new technique where they simply make a small cut 8-12 inches below the surface on the verge and bury the cable there. This reduces road damage (unless they need to change kerb sides) but can be easily disturbed as other utilities work goes on. It is far cheaper and works better in the remote regions where you go alongside smaller regional roads. If all goes well they run several routes and if someone shreds a cable on one road the others heal around. We have yet to see how it survives in the long term but the low cost usually ends up biting you on the bottom with later service bills in general?

We are with BT Broadband. As there is NO EE coverage in my home I can't take advantage of the offer to bundle broadband and mobiles.

Has anyone experience of Vodafone Broadband? We have Vodafone mobiles and bundling would save us money.

We could use Sky, but only if their mobiles use the Vodafone or 02 networks, if they use EE or 3 then no way.

Broadband speed is good, we get mid 70s mbps download.
As the "Green box" is less than 200m from the house we could get fibre to the house, but the Openreach installation is expensive and I don't see the need.

We have fibre to cabinet, and for about 6 months after installation we were only getting about 30Mb until I asked BT to have a look at the external wiring. A keen young engineer came out and pronounced our external cable as being "older than the stuff my Dad worked on".

So he replaced the wiring from pole to house, and now we get a rock steady 78Mb, which is plenty for watching streaming movies. No charge either, which was nice.

So like Peter we're struggling to see why we would want fibre to house, even if it were to be available.

Richard, June on the phone all m/ing speaking to a chap who had a name I could not make up if I tried . I told her to get a copy of the contract e-mailed to us and don't take no for an answer its come . Will run a copy or 2 off to keep . Also about to start with builders plumbers sparky's the lot, got planning permission may end up with a house if all goes well !!!!. So If you wonder where I have gone to at times, most likely playing with a bucket and spade in the sand to see if I can find a pot of gold to pay for it.

Richard got another quiz but right hand is sore after target practise from the needle . June got a box of chocolates and gave them to Jnr does not work . One hell of a crash on a short stretch of road on the way to club meeting . 2 cars in bits with a police car at the rear and at the front . Looked like two idiots who thought they had been at Le Mans Oddly one police car behind almost jambing it in one smashed car at the front . What a mess .
