Unless the chassis is gravely bent and damaged (and I suspect it isn't, the front bumper is untouched, apparently the impact was suffered by the wing alone) , the repair costs your guys are stating are incredible. I suppose living in the UK means everything is more expensive than in my country, but even then … wow.

Well, if it was only the wing that took the bang, then it would be a lot less, but I think I can see damage to the wing where the wheel has rubbed it or hit it, as well as the cowl and the bonnet. It is only when you start taking things apart that the true extent of the damage becomes apparent, and as Peter quite rightly says, it is all about the money at the end of the day, after all, what is the point of repairing a damaged car, which ultimately costs more than a similar car will cost to buy, without it ever having been damaged?

The insurance Companies in my past experience dont work with any complicated mathermatics Peter.

Normally if the Engineer calculates that the repair could exceed 1/3
of the VALUE THEY PAY OUT they write it off, the Salvage contractor normally pays 5% of what the cars standard value was before incident, in most cases the salvage Company makes a profit, but they are obliged to take burn outs too and pay 5% which is a clear loss.

I confess i dont know plus 4 prices but my guess is when straight its worth circa £22-25k

However more recently Insurance Companies are relinquishing their relationships the Salvage dealers and are setting up closed Auction sites where Salvage dealers have to bid for stock similar to regular trade Auctions.

Thanks for all your comments folks it really reinforces my initial thoughts that any restoration, especially organised by myself, is completely out of the window at the price wanted by the salvage company.

I don't know how the prices in UK differ from German repair prices. When I had my wildlife accident almost exactly one year ago, only the fender was really damaged. No scratches and no deformation on other parts.

The insurance paid, it was about 7.000 €. The damage here in the picture looks like a lot more.

I agree with Dean, the price is way OTT.

My guess is that it will require a cross frame, wing and various consumable materials required for a quality rebuild.

£15K Tops in my opinion.

I’ve seen a few salvage Mogs for sale over the years and the asking prices have always been way over the top to make it a worthwhile project

Does anyone know the industry? - is this usual and the salvage dealer just puts a silly price on and then settles at a much lower figure.

Has the salvage company actually bought it from the insurer or are they advertising it with a view to getting as much for the insurance company and themselves in a deal?

Stewart its a while since i was close to the MS industry, but as previously said the Salvage Dealers are independent and have to register with the Insurance Company to be a buyer.
The last i know was all vehicles where purchased at @5% of their original value at time of incident, using Glasses Guide, the Salvage Comoany was bound by contract to take all vehicles which ever class the vehicle was placed in by the insurer, ie squash, Parts Only, damage repair or stolen recovered.
The 5% was based on the assumption that even with taking in stock that was burnt out or had to be squashed the Salvage Company still won a healthy profit with the repairable stock.

Hence why i originally suggested this seller could of paid a minimil £2-3 k for that car but has to consider he might of squashed 2 vehicles last week.

In mormal circumstances with a car that is run of the mill he will understand its market value, my gut feeling is he has looked at some over rated magazine adverts, contacted a Morgan dealer and came to the wrong conclusion that repaired its worth a million dollars.

If it is rebuilt it will carry the Cat C categorisation (I think now Cat S). Uneconomic but repairable and will show up on any HPI check. This will undoubtedly impact its resale value.
