Neilda you are spot on with your diagnosis.
Took the Mog in to have the diagnostic scan carried out.
It showed a fault code on the oxygen sensor but not the one connected to the exhaust.
It appears that when the Librands sports manifold and exhaust is fitted that one of the sensors is not used and is blanked off.
It is thought that the heavy jolt had upset it and triggered a fault to be registered.
The underside of the car had a thorough inspection with wiring and sensors checked before clearing the code.
The engine management light remained out when run this afternoon.
Thanks again lads for taking the time to read and reply to my question.

Jeepy

You take care of "my" car...As you found out one of the sensors is tied up and blanked off in the engine bay as it is no longer required in the Librands set up.

Hope you still enjoying the blackest 4/4 Sport out there !!

It has only occured a couple of times over last 4 years since but only after putting standard 95 octane in.....until today!
I was down to less than halfway from zero to 1/4 so stopped at a Murco petrol station and saw they had 97 octane so put 4 gals in . Within 1/4 mile the light came on. Engine running fine. When home 4 miles later the Maxiscan showed the same fault...random intermittent misfire. Makes me wonder about the petrol in the 97 octane pump!
I would advise checking the fault with an obd reader/reset tool.
From what you described it could be the pipe you hit has disturbed/damaged a sensor. An OBD tool should narrow it down.
As the engine was running ok it is unlikely to be a crtical sensor.

Petrol octane rating wouldnt cause a misfire in a healthy engine - lower octane means more explosive fuel not fuel that wont ignite. The reverse in fact. It might cause pinking but not a misfire, so my thought would be that one cylinder has a weak spark plug or coil pack or lead. Or even a dodgy injector.

Strictly speaking the second O2 sensor is there to verify the functioning of the cat and to disable it in any way could be an MOT failure as it is illegal to interfere with the correct functioning of the anti-polution systems in any way. Since we interfere with it when we fit a sports exhaust I suppose it doesn't matter much if we also circumvent it by disabling the system that checks the correct functioning of the cat. innocent
If the O2 sensor was installed in the system correctly you would probably have a constant warning light and fault and that would be an MOT failure.

Just so you know.
