I noticed that one of the hoses to the coolant header tank on my 2015 4/4 had split and was leaking. It has now been cut and refitted, so that's all right. But the MMC, as is its wont, selected the cheapest available hoses.

Is there a thread somewhere detailing the best hose upgrades for the 1600cc Sigma engine? Also, I think it would be wise to ditch the plastic radiator and get an aluminium replacement. I'd appreciate advice on that too.

I have no doubt that this has been discussed previously, but I could not track it down.

I got the aluminium rsad - mine was from Mulfab. It has been on now for about two years and the engine runs a lot cooler and I think I have only heard the fan on once when in a long queue for about 20 minutes.A very good buy and I got mine before the old one cracked as no doubt it would have gone in the middle of Dartmoor in a blizzard.

Sifab also do a aluminium rad ,it comes with all the fittings and is a beautiful replacement for the original.
I have also noticed that the engine runs cooler.

I have a Mulfab fitted to my Plus 8 and it runs a lot cooler than the standard fitment.

Sifab also makes a good one and Williams market one, this could be a Sifab one I'm not totally sure about that though.

Go silicon hoses if you can.

Maybe worth giving these guys a call or email. silicon

Raphy on here (atalante83) will know who to go to in your neck of the woods.

Thanks for that. Mulfab or Sifab? I shall ponder the question... but not for long! I took the split hose as a message.

Silicon hoses ! Go to Autosiliconhoses in Mirfield, great people to deal with, any colour you like and quality 2nd to none. I've changed them all on my old crossflow caterham and a ouple on my plus 4.
I'd second the Mulfab ali rad, fitted mine about 3 years ago and have been in some warm environments, its a 200hp supersport engine and never a sign of getting too warm.
Somehow Uk specialist car manufacturers always go cheap on radiators, i had 2 plastic ones under warrenty on a new caterham a while back and eventually ditched the plastic for an Ali Radtec job, problem solved.
I got 10 years out of the plastic article on my Elise before i thought it wise to go Ali bearing in mind the well known HGF issues with the K series engine

The link Richard sent you to is Roose Motorsport.

One of the reasons I like that company is that they do silicone hoses with a liner suitable for OAT antifreeze.

In your 4/4 2015 you will almost certainly have the OAT. ( usually red / pink / orange in colour as opposed to the older blue none OAT antifreeze)

Not all silicone hoses are compatible with OAT antifreeze so check what you have in the rad and make sure the hose is compatible.

Williams did their own radiator Richard. AFAIK they still have their own. I had a good look during an open day around 5 or 6 years ago.
This was prior to Simon leaving Mulfab to start on his own as SiFAb.
So, a choice of three suppliers Peter.
