I am getting excited. Just a week to go.

It is not long before the Morgan Challenge first round at Silverstone. I hope to come down from Oulton Park on the Saturday and race the Club Sport on Sunday.

Is this your first race? If so take it easy and stay out of trouble for the first lap , then settle down once you you are happy out there.

Don't be put off by many of the cars around you going indecently quickly, several have been racing for years and know every corner, every line , and how to get the utmost from their Morgans whatever the age of model. Run your own race and try to enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice, appreciated. I will try and stay out of trouble and race my own pace and see how I do.

To let you know what experience I have; I raced a Club Sport in the Race of Remembrance (ROR) last year (about 2 hours racing and an hour practice) so thought I should buy one and race a Morgan more often. It was fun and very different to what I race currently.

I race Fun Cup endurance series currently. I have a 4 hour race at Oulton Park on the Saturday. Silverstone is on the way home so why not race on the Sunday?

Silverstone National hosted a 4 hour race last year for Fun Cup and I have tested on the GP circuit and taken veterans on passenger rides around the International, in the very wet, earlier in the year. I am familiar with the track and so I think I should be OK on the lines.

Without calculating I probably spent about 60 hours last year practicing, racing and on track or test days on different tracks and in a variety of cars.

I have little experience of starting races as I have only started one race, which oddly enough was a rolling start at Silverstone, my race partner normally starts and I finish. I have practiced the start on the simulator!?! If that helps.

I need to get to know the car but my lap times were competitive at ROR. I think the 20 minute format is also a bit like a sprint compared to what I race currently.

So I think the challenges will be:

1. Getting a good qualifying lap with little seat time in the car
2. Making a good start
3. The short race format
4. Getting comfortable in the car. I am 5 foot 7 and 59 Kgs (I have asked them to fit small tilletts and seat runners)
5. Being the pit crew and driver

Cannot wait LOL. I will report back ......

Look forward to meeting you at Silverstone, I race a ‘78 +8 race number 78.
Started back in the Morgan series last year after a 15 year rest.
I’m sure you will enjoy it, the other racers are generally friendly and will assist with help & advice if needed.
Regards
Steve

Brilliant Steve I am excited to get out and take on the Challenge. I have entered the race but have not chosen a number yet.

Good to hear the pull of racing got you back after 15 years!
