A very interesting watch - with some disturbing footage / dialogue. The question for a petrolhead, is how do you obtain a reduction of your environmental footprint whilst still enjoying driving a real car ?

I really don't like the look of the classic cars that are being converted to electric drive as it completely misses the point of having a classic car, other than the looks.

I am increasingly convinced that the real answer will be to run the car on hydrogen, still using a standard driveline (with modified engine parameters for hydrogen fuel), so you still get the noise and sensation of driving a car with the only real downside being a reduction in boot space to allow for the lower density fuel storage.

If you could have a simple home based electrolysis unit producing hydrogen using solar power or purchase renewable electricity to produce the hydrogen you would be completely zero carbon footprint.

I will admit to feeling pretty uneasy watching knowing how much I enjoy my Plus 8 but somehow managed to balance it with our lack of consumerism, but that's just my convenient thinking.


I have instinctively thought that hydrogen seems to be the right answer but most people quote expensive production etc.
Your answer to the production side seems a very sound one.

The vital information from the program that came across to me was that it's act now or there will be nothing left for our youngsters.

All true, but all the CO2 produced in the UK in a year is insignificant, according to a column by Jeremy Warner in the Daily Telegraph. He states that China emits more pollution in a year that the sum of all pollution in the UK from 1919 to 2019.
At the present growth rate China will, by 2040, be responsible for more CO2 pollution per year than the sum of North America and Europe.

In China economic growth takes priority over the environment. Bit like Victorian England.

So, just remember, every time you buy something Made in China you are supporting a society that cares not about the planet and your purchase will be adding to their CO2 and other pollution.

Do what you can you avoid CO2 and other pollution, but worrying about cars is pointless. Cows and home heating are far bigger polluters than all the cars in the UK.

1. Stop flying to go on holiday (or on business if it can possibly be avoided)
2. Switch to a primarily plant-based diet, eat locally produced meat only, do not eat farmed salmon
3. Switch to a 100% renewable energy tariff for your home
4. Run your central heating for less time at a lower temperature

Uk will implement a new mass suicide to reduce our emissions to 0. The Liberal elite will of course be spared. So that they can fly to take part in protests just like Emma Thompson!
