At last! Someone speaking up for the railways!

I have a "Senior Citizens"rail pass and use it mostly to go to London.
There are a plethora of Rail Passes, all of which give you discounts of one sort or another, particularly on non commuter time trains. They are essentially load management tools as the cost of running a train is almost the same, full or empty. So it pays for the operating companies to encourage the uses of off peak tickets.
I don't consider the rail cards to be comparable with the buss pass and other government funded payouts for old people.

The biggest pensioner perk is not having to work.............

I get regular use from my Senior Railcard, and occasional use of my Bus Pass..............

The heating allowance just gets thrown at you and we forward that on to other people.

Not due a TV licence for quite a while and I strongly suspect that the BBC will be history by that time and that will be good they are so biased nowadays.

The Bus pass is useful at times and the only thing we have applied for. Very useful in the season as you don't have to worry about parking, the coastal route from our village to Salcombe on the top deck is excellent.

My experience of train travel enroute to LHR ensures we will never get one of their passes.

Our bus passes are absolutely brilliant and save us a load of money when we stay in London which we tend to do most summers,I would really miss them. Like you Rich, the free TV licence is a way of and now we have discovered Netflix and Amazon Prime, the only tele we watch is generally BBC 4 on Friday evening for the music programmes. John Lee Hooker and The Stones last night. The adverts really get on my nerves and even the left wing Beeb spends ages advertising it's own programmes. Old Git moan over!! oldgit

Here for a good time not a long time!!
