Vredestein Sprint Classics are great, much better than the Continentals. +1 I'm on my second set, brilliant tyres. Am I correct in thinking that as these tyres are exempt from EU tyre marking that they cannot be fitted legally to post 1990 vehicles? At least here in Austria they are legal to be fitted on modern cars. I am a happy customer.

I'm not aware of this, what EU markings don't they have? Mine's a 1986 car so it doesn't apply anyway. If it genuinely is a problem, then the T-trac is the obvious alternative I would think.

The same is true of the Avon CR6ZZ and Morgan have fitted them as O/E. Reading the legislation, the legal responsibility seems to lie with the tyre seller/distributor. Since Morgan suspension and steering designs pre 1990 and post 1990 are basically the same it could be argued that current Morgans can use these tyres!

I suspect that a tyre like the Vredestein Sprint Classics might not meet the modern EU label and therefore has the additional condition to only be used for old cars. E.g. the fuel consumption values or the wet values. Or they just saved the money for the EU label and therefore the tyres have to be mounted on cars before 1990. But it is certainly a good tyre as many here stated.

The Vredestein Classic is an excellent tyre for the 4/4, whereas the standard Continental ("trailer tyres" as Henry Catchpole wrote in EVO) is dangerously deficient on anything other than a dry surface.

On my old Beetle 1303S I have various XAS, XVS and CN36. I would only ever have the CN36 where possible but that was a long time ago.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

The XAS is also exempt from labelling which means in theory that it can only be used on pre-1990 cars although the legality of that requirement really needs to be clarified.
Sidewall bulges and hollows are a function of the way in which the sidewall is applied during the tyre building process. In manual tyre building the sidewalls are applied to a horizontal drum and joined (or spliced) butt, or with a specified amount of overlap. If the overlap is too large it can cause a bulge at the join and a hollow in the area immediately behind the join.These are normally cosmetic defects and will not affect the performance of the tyre. Bulges which are caused by structural damage which results in spreading of the ply cords on the other hand, are dangerous and any tyre which has this damage should be replaced immediately.
Tyres which are supplied to car manufacturers as original equipment (O/E) have to meet the car manufacturers' specification for sidewall undulations and tyre manufacturers employ sophisticated measurement equipment during the final inspection phase of the tyre manufacturing operations to check this.Since the type of tyres we are talking about are not used as O/E I will leave you to draw your own conclusions............

I'm really not sure how widespread this problem actually is. I've heard of this possibility from a couple of sources, and seen photographs of one car with the phenomenon on two of its tyres. I have bought a total of 9 of these tyres so far, and not one of them has had any unsightly bulges. Unlike the purchaser.
