Yesterday I just sprayed some "stop rust" into the little drain holes. The problem with the holes are they are not on the bottom, so better at letting water in, than letting it out.

I can't wait to see the problem in front of me. Pretty frustrating reading about something that sounds like a design flaw; you would think the Brits would know about rain/water and how to drain it.
One big mistake that people do is to undercoat a vehicle and close off all the drain hole thus trapping water inside the panels.

Hi, thanks for the replies I meant powder coated. One of the mudguards shows bubbling at the top and it's to be sorted under warranty. The story is that the factory have replacements on a long back order so mine will be sandblasted and painted. Not happy about that but wanted clarification on whether they are painted or powder coated. There are different views on this site. Some say painted and others powder coated!

When my original mudguards were about a year or so old I took them off expecting to give them a bit of a clean up and a rattle can paint job to stop the tin worm. Basically took one look at the state of them and got them grit blasted and powder coated. Also plugged up assorted cavities with epoxy metal and then several layers of stonechip paint on the insides. By the time another three years had gone by there was bubbling under the powder coating and one of them had broken at the rear mounting arm; this got welded up, failed again and fixed with a sleeve and more epoxy metal. Since then they have both been replaced with new, one due to hitting a tree (can't blame the powder coating for that one!) and the other just to match. I'd be inclined to go with painting, at least it's easier to re-do when it inevitably fails and more corrosion emerges from the various unpaintable seams. I've also gone for anti-corrosion wax in the seams best as I can manage. With a bit of luck G56 will come up with robust, non-corroding, lightweight mudguards that look acceptable before too long.

Calum, that’s a very good description of the problem.
In the past I have used phosphoric acid primers with good success for exposed metal, and then paint for appearance.

You guys may want to try this. I used it under the hood of my '40 Willys and the whole underside of the car. Body Shutz! It's a rubberized coating like an under coating, but it easy and cheap to apply. You can get a quart of it and the gun for under $50 US at Amazon. Amazon Body Shutz This will help with the flying gravel/stones on the underside and also protect from rusting as quickly.

you can also use truck bed coating. It comes brushable and also in a rattle can I looked at several and have had a couple applied to truck I have owned but for the 3 Wheeler purposes this stuff sounds interesting. https://www.durabakcompany.com/product/durabak-bed-liner-quart-smooth-2/It sort of seems like if one were to purchase a new 5 Speeder the first thing to do is at least undercoat the mudguards with stuff like this.

I used to use body shutz in the 70's to good effect and still have the applicator gun somewhere in the garage.
We used to use it to hide all manner of rust and welded in patches from the MOT tester when all we could afford were rusty sheds.
