I had a similar problem last week. My 1993 +4 wouldn't start first attempt. I had to try 3 to 4 times and then it started. I couldn't hear the fuelpump so I checked it and found the +connector was broken. Sometimes it made contact, sometimes not. When I replaced it, the car didn't start. I then interchanged the 3 relays in the enginebay. The car started but I couldn't rev above 1500 rpm. I opened the relays and under a magnifying glass I could see the contact points didn't close totally. So I used a 240 sandpaper to clean them. Now everything seems to be all right again.
