This is the OEM actually sitting inside the G59. Also it is a heavier gauge steel

Comparison of the intake

side by side (yes I was wearing brown shoes)

So first impressions driving. Actually was on the surface streets this am as I needed to stop by wally world. The acceleration seems a lot smoother. Before once I got above 3000/3500 rpm it felt constipated.... that feeling is gone. Also felt less labored when I went to a higher gear, before felt like it was wanting to lug.

I am pleased

Thanks for the photos Rodger.

Did you install the full G56 Stage 1 kit?

no just the air filter cover. Lots of $$'s for a simple piece, but S&S parts aren't cheap either. And obviously, they are not stamped out in a factory.

I am going to assume the S&S stage 1 filter is taller, not a larger diameter. It looks like that would fit over that very well

Interesting comparison.

Does the G56 air cleaner use the same filter element as oem?

yes, it is just a cover. What it appears to do is be less restrictive of the air flow to the filter

The S&S allows air all the way around it with zero restriction, like Aero Stage 1 from Morgan.
I think the S&S cost in the neighborhood of $350 for the complete cleaner and cover; yikes! But, if air flow is apparently so delicate then it might be worth it.

That’s a lot for the Posting of your findings.

I would worry if the filter element is just "out there" about what would happen in the rain.

I have no plans to drive in foul weather, BUT, if it is used on motorcycles then why not the m3w?

They do make a rain hood but it looks like it restricts a bit of air. If you think about it the motorcycle get air forced in one one side and drawn out the other. That is minimized but their teardrop covers which remind me of the G56. Makes me think about adapting the S&S body with its venturi stinger and larger filter area with the larger diameter and scooping G56 cover.

There's quite a bit of work gone into the design of the G56 cover. I had mine on the desk, and thought I would sketch it up.
Taper to the main body, and rolled baffle in the "scoop".
I guess it does grab quite a bit of air when at speed. Great design IMO
