Well that was a good display of extreme behaviour and a poor loser if ever I saw one and what an example for the worlds youth. Disgraceful.

The stewards decision may have been a close call but it's the way you handle these situations that you are judged by.
The crowd booing Hamilton not good either, he pressured Vettel yet again into a forced error and that's the business they are in to win.

Not all will agree I know hide

The issues was that Hammy would have overtaken as a result of his error and he prevented it by driving dangerously. Penalty was correct in my opinion.

Quite. At any other circuit, and for any other driver, this would have been a crystal clear decision. If you gain an advantage (either by overtaking or, if you're in front, by preventing an overtake) by leaving the track, you're obliged to give up the place or face a penalty. The stewards are pretty consistent in applying a 5-second time penalty for this. If Vettel had given the place to Hamilton and then harassed him all the way to the end of the race, he might well have forced an error himself, especially with the brake temperature issues both drivers were having. He's petulant, and his petulance caused him to concede a win he might otherwise have held onto or won back.

His team ought to have told him so, as well. Ferrari have been tactically outplayed many times this year (and last, tbh.) For sure, racing drivers necessarily tend to have big egos, but if he'd been instructed to give up the place and try to fight back, it would have made both a better spectacle and a fairer race.

Vettel has a history of forced errors when pressured by Hamilton. He should have let Hamilton past and then, as has been said, fought back.

Spoilt Brat springs to mind.

Ferarri should dump him and buy Verstappen. With Le Clerc and Verstappen they would be a mighty force.

I totally agree with Doug and it wasn’t mentioned at all on Sky after the event which I’m really annoyed about as they just kept saying the 5 seconds was harsh

Ferrari should have acted quickly and told Vettel to let Hamilton past and then we would have had an even better race to the end and the winner would have been whoever came first

I actually don’t blame Vettel
adrenalin surging, extremely hot temps and a high pressure situation nearing the end of the race, he’s not going give that place up without being told

I blame Ferrari for not forseeing the situation and not acting quickly

I thought swapping the 1st and 2 nd place stands around was quite funny but his boss had let him down

As you say the team a manager let him down again after his loss of control under pressure from Lewis, they are outside the Kevlar adrenalin tub and should be giving him the best advise to ensure a win.

I thought swapping over the 1 and 2 was funny in isolation but together with his other spoilt boy antics post race it didn't work for me really.

I'd like to see him get revenge on the track in France but I shall be very surprised if he does, Hamilton and Leclerc have the measure of him and a little in reserve a Schumacher he is not.

I'd love to see his throttle pedal trace for the incident.

IMHO if he was on the throttle when he re-joined and went across the track, he was guilty.

If he was off the throttle and still trying to control the car then he was innocent. Or at least he could claim it wasn't deliberate.

Maybe the stewards had that information when they gave him the 5s penalty

I was at MissW's and they had the sky coverage...…….

It's the first time I've seen the sky coverage, and I found it lacklustre to be honest. Channel 4 is better for me, even though I'm not keen on the main presenter (whoever he is).

I understand Vettel's position, after all he lead the whole race, and he has made habit of that in his Red Bull days.

But as Ivormog says, the throttle position would be good evidence.

Would Hamilton have done the same? Probably. Would Ferrari have complained? Certainly.

And all this is why I didn't watch the previous two races.

FWIW I was disappointed, as a major Lewis fan, that a penalty decided the race. However, if this had happened further down the grid eg Grosjean running wide in front of a.n. other I would have been spitting feathers at the injustice of the block, accidental or otherwise so felt less disappointment. Nonetheless, as a race fan it was a shame.
If Lewis had thrown the strop however everyone would have been up in arms. It was a shame and took the edge off a fine drive by Vettel. Nonetheless Lewis appears to be peerless in his driving these days and rarely seems to make mistake despite the pressure (bar FP2). Can’t wait for our days coming up at Silverstone (don’t believe it will be the last time there...)

Exciting race tho.... 👍
