Actually this place is in Lithuania - Curonian Spit. Very nice place, good roads.
Thomas Mann spent several summers in his holiday house in Nida, which still exist as a small museum.

You are quite correct Peter, it's still Lithuania. The roads however up to Nida from the ferry in Klaipeda is ok but still has potholes in places.( I did drive the Morgan in Russia back in the late 80s across to St Petersburg and down to Minsk)
