As I’m giving in to getting a rack, thought I’d revisit “luggage solutions”... seems to be 3 main approaches, possibly combined... 1. The fixed box ... presumably drilled and u-clamped... I like the look of https://www.zarges.com/uk/products/boxes/zarges-box/2. The removable suitcase ... although waterproofing likely an issue especially for vintage cardboard cases! 3. Personally, I’d recommend Kriega motorcycle bags. We did the NZ trip with six 30 litre Kriega bags on the rack! Four would actually have been enough if we had been a bit smarter with our packing!

I have a boot bag, it fits the rack well and is generally water proof the only time any water got in was during a torrential thunderstorm. The zip itself is not water proof and relies on a flap which extends over the zip to deflect any water.

Hi Paul, you could check out ‘Oxford's’ motorcycle-specific range,
I have a T50 which holds everything I need and so far has kept it all dry. Might be worth popping down to Infinity and having a look to see what they have.

Thanks - good advice... I suspect the soft bike bags are going to be the easiest route!

I may consider getting a hard case as well, to store helmets. For safety and comfort I usually drive with a helmet on, but if you’re two up and you want to drive with the wind in your hair ( or in my case, wind on your balding head), there really isn’t any where to store them comfortably in the car.

I am very happy with my Ortlieb bag, enough space, easy to carry and fix and always perfect waterproof

Richard - haveto say I leave the helmet(s) inside with the tonneau done up... in a soft helmet bag, down in the footwell. Probably one could lock the bag in to the chassis if needed. Then again those motorbike topboxes for helmets storage don't look too bad!

Achim +1 I have an Ortlieb that's a bit on the small side and an Overboard that's a bit on the big side, both are excellent at keeping the rain out. Not that it's ever a problem in Scotland.
