Thanks for the relies everyone,

Just to clarify I am talking about the panel under the dashboard.

This seems to vary between cars and is either cardboard, plastic or vinyl covered metal

Multiplex, so that would be plywood would it? Does that make all Plus 4's ( and 4/4's ) equipped with a wooden dashboard but some merely have a thin veneer of walnut or whatever applied on top?

Mines deffo aluminium with black vinyl, it's also lethally sharp at the far edge & used to kindly shave the top of my thumb knuckle off when using the handbrake

Mine too. I guess they must have changed it in 2015. The plastic is a bit flexible but doesn't have any of the above mentioned problems.

Just as a update, I took the underdash panel off last night.

Cut my thumb open on the rheostat due to the badly angled cut and lack of filing, the 12v socket also broke apart as soon as I touched it.

Anyway, the reason for the "droop" became apparent, the factory only apply adhesive to the middle of the panel, the glue stops about 12mm away from the edge, thus the edge will never stay attached.

I have dropped the panel into a local firm who will powder coat it for £15. I should have it back by the end of the week.

I purchased a new socket and underdash panel screws from BHM,

Does anyone know if this "underdashpanel" is for sale separately, and if yes, where can I buy it? I have a 4/4 1980

I very much doubt that the current panel would fit a 1980 dash.

It might be worth making a cardboard template, and making one in aluminium. It would look good covered in leather.

Or try 3mm black Foamex sheet, easy to cut (used by sign makers as a backer) and has a nice slightly textured face
