How much oil/lube does the BB take if you fill it?

I don't understand why filling the BB to the vent plug could damage the seal as the BB does not operate under pressure (hence having a vent plug). If the vent plug was removed and a modified vent tube installed going vertically you could in theory increase the volume of oil to cover the workings and still vent.

Bruce I think the problem is that the existing orange vent plug will vent air but not oil, so if it overfilled the BB cannot vent and oil then leaks from the seal.

Liquids get hot and expand so if it cannot vent then the seals get stressed.

Put the Redline 80W250 synthetic gear oil in the bevel box the other day and did my first long(ish) run today in 27c ambient temperature. Not any real change from running with the Redline Shockproof. Sad to say, it doesn't seem to be a miracle cure for noisy bevel boxes.
Another thing to consider, in reply to britmog, if you overfill a gearbox, it usually makes it run hotter because of the increased friction and drag of the extra oil. Extra heat is not what you want in the M3W Bevel Box.

I spent a few hours yesterday soundproofing the aluminium rear bulhead with Silent Coat Extra 4mm.
This has made much more of an improvement in bevel box noise than either Millers 140 or Redline 250.

Do you recommend that over Dynamat?

I just got en email from Emil at MorganCustom.net and he had developed a remote fill kit for the Bevel Box, which increases the oil capacity to 28oz. He should publish test results and temperature readings soon
