Probably stupid question of the day , but here goes :

I have read a number of times of people re aligning the steering wheel by slackening off the steering UV joint just above the steering box.
My wheel alignment is a little out and has been bugging me a while, so today I thought i would have a go.
Slackened off the nut on the UV fully so it is no longer clamping to steering box spindle -but I cant rotate the joint to steering box spindle at all , it is still fully clamped by the UV piece so the splines are still engaged.
I considered trying to widen the UV - but it looks like a cast peice so might fracture, or a best I could weaken it.

What am I missing?

The column telescopes, so just pull the column backward from the clamp, rotate and re-insert. That's it!

I don't know if this applies to the M3W, but usually there is a groove in the splines that the clamp bolt locates in - to prevent the UJ falling off the shaft. If this is the case you have to remove the clamp bolt, not just loosen it.

Yes. I was just about to write this. One spline on the shaft might be too much if the wheel is only slightly off centre. Might be better to do it on the track rod ends (equally each side so as not to change the track).

With the bolt removed , the lower end of the steering column telescopes up into the upper half, then you can spin the disconnected wheel.
The shaft of the bolt engages in a matching groove in the steering box spindle , stopping it telescoping up.

I just loosened the joint then pulled the shaft off the splines and rotated where i wanted it. You might have to take that cross bolt out.

Next time I have the bonnet off I will send a photo, but it is super simple. Look at the steering rack that goes from side to side of the vehicle, on that rack there is the steering column attached with a clamp fitting. Undo the clamp fitting and pull the entire steering column back off the splines. Turn wheel where you want it and slide the column back onto the splines and tighten the clamp.
When you get a 3 Wheeler 5 Speeder you will see it.

It is super simple as LightSpeed says, what fooled me is you have to take the bolt out to let the column slide up so you can rotate it to select another position.
