That looks like a proper and forever fix SimonH!

Below is what my shop did to mine, although they guarantee it to last, I was shocked at the $4.5kUS invoice for the work! The vast majority of this expense was the labor to remove, clean and prep, and reinstall both tanks.

It's shocking to me that Morgan just keeps building new M3Ws with the flimsy, prone to failure, design.

Looks like if it happens (when it happens) to me I better remove the tanks myself!

I've had various alloy parts for many cars fabricated and welded over the years, most recently a beautiful oil tank for the Morgan For $400, including the materials. I've had custom fuel tanks made for 2 of Lotus Elans, the last one about 2 years ago for $600, material included.

So $4500 to R&R the tanks, clean and weld?!? That, as they say, "is not right". Fabbing new brackets and welding should have been a few hundred bucks, max. R&R of the fuel tanks, clean and prep of the tanks couldn't have been over 8 hours. So they they must charge like $500/hr for shop time?

Best avoid them in the future.

You're not wrong Bitsobrits, I was billed 30 hours for the job! Seems like there at least should have been some lube provided with that invoice.

Better that dying in a fire though, maybe...

Was that repair done in the Seattle area?

Everything has been done at AR Motor Sports in Portland.

AR originally diagnosed the fuel smell as coming from the Charcoal Canister which they replaced, along with relocating the evaporative emissions purge valve to a higher location, and a longer vent line hose was run to the bottom rear edge of this area = $600, here is a pic of that work...

I must say the area in question certainly is clean! My machine is new and this is what it looks like, with the canister oriented differently.

[Linked Image] as you can see the canister vent does a strange plumbing turn, like a P-Trap and will collect crud thrown into it. Mine looks like a completely different cannister.

Is the line running down out of sight open to the air and is that the same thing as mine that makes the J turn?

BTW, what shocks are those?

I had to take both tanks off myself: it involves removing the wheel, shocks and a subframe member which supports the bevel box. Took me 6 hours or so. Rewelding of the tank brackets costed me $90 in SF bay area, and I payed $40 to re-saw the supporting straps, so 4.5k seems a bit steep...

I just used a can of foamy engine bright to clean things up, it was covered in 1/8" of rubber dust and dirt prior.

Yes, the hose they put in just runs to the lower edge and is open to the air.

They're Suplex adjustable shocks.

I agree that this job was exorbitantly expensive, and it's hard to rationalize the work adding up to the cost. When I bought this used M3W I knew there were upgrades that needed to be done. This issue was unexpected work and was most expensive of them all.
