Harleys also counterbalance their engines a lot better than the S&S. I am also pleasantly surprised when I get on my 2017 Road king with the Milwaukee 8 engine how smooth it is. Although I did test drive a Softail deluxe with the bigger 114 engine (and Softails have a more fixed mounting system and different counter balancing) and found the vibration annoying.

although the "touring engines" have better counter balancing and mounting, so if it were bored to 114 it would be smoother than the softail engines. Always the problem is that a V-twin has "pulses" do to its configuration. Decades ago I took a paddle wheel up Loch Lomond and it sort of had a V-twin to drive the paddles wheel... you could feel the two piston pulse...… SPLASH SPLASH splash splash splash (etc.)..... BMW's had their boxer which does not have a pulse (but a lot of sideways torque. Hondas first gold wing had the engine and stator rotate in opposite directions so none of the torgue
