I've been searching round for some tyres for my 4/4: 165-80 R15

Among the limited range available in that size, I saw an advert for Yokohama Classic tyres.

This was a tyre announced back in March and looked pretty nice.

Can I find a set? Nope. I started calling around Yoko dealers in the area asking about them, and they all said it wasn't on their list, and they'd make enquiries.

One called back and asked me to pop in, as I was concerned about the age of my current set (they are fine, apparently). He told me that my calling round had made it to Yokohama's regional manager, as "a whole load of enquiries" had been made.

I'm waiting to hear if any can be found, but will probably end up with Continental CT 22.

Other suggestions welcome!

I would recommend the Vredestein Classics in the seize 185x70x15. A great improvement over the standard Conti's. One disadvantage, in my case the tyre touches the front of the rear fender. I cannot use the Mulberry kit, because when the axle is moved 15mm back it touches the petrol tank. My car has the high blocks between the axle and the spring. Is the r somebody who has a solution for this problem?

I put a set of Vredestein T-Trac 2s on my 4/4 earlier this year to replace the Continentals.

Sorry, I don't understand tyre sizing. My current tyres are 165 80 R15. Surely that wouldn't fit?

Simply explained:
185 and 165 is the width of the tyre (in mm).
70 and 80 is the percentage of that width the wall of tyre is high (or the aspect ratio).
So if you go up from 165 to 185, you must go down from 80 to 70 to get roughly the same height.

I wouldn't fit the wider tyres to a 4/4 either.
You may have problems with the tyres touching where they shouldn't and the additional loading on steering willmake slow speed / parking harder.
Vredestein T-Trac2 or one of their classic range - Tim (Hamwich) has fitted a set but I forget the name.

I changed to 185/70 r15 Vredestein Classics and they give far better road grip than the Conties.

I changed to 185/70r15 the tyre rubbed on the inner wing and was just legal on sticking proud of the body work.
It also handled badly.
I swooped back to 165 and the handling great improved.

How does the car drive with the narrow tires: rather steer over or under when cornering hard?

I live in an area of winding country roads.
OMy 4/4 has a 2 litre zetec tuned to 185 bhp close ratio gear box.
It handles well never felt out of control and I drive quick ! Within the speed limit.
I run my tyre pressure at 24 lbs
