Yes they were the battery power outlet of choice in the 50's and 60's until the flawed adoption of cigar lighter sockets for such. My series LR has them for optional inspection lamp. Matching double plugs are still available.

Oh so familiar Richard (except that mine was painted "Sand").
Didn't have a hand throttle either.

Now I know why my side screens rattle!
A nice looking car though.

I am with Peter here , although the sidescreens are a joke (and therefore one needs to be wary of other areas where there is deficient workmanship) I think this is a remarkable bargain for someone.

Forget the mileage issue , no-one in their right mind thinks that is genuine.

It has a TR2 engine , all the correct instruments , and assuming the Moss gearbox and Sailisbury 3HA axle are correct it is a good basis for a very nice period +4. I would want to see the chassis and look very closely at the woodwork before offering anything , but assuming all OK , it would be an interesting project for someone with the space and knowledge to build up to a roadworthy car themselves. If a "professional restorer" gets involved then it would totally uneconomic.

From a worse than poor memory, those little power sockets were for accessories of the time, a time with very different expectations than today..?

One such accessory was a wander lamp, useful when working in dark places on the car, another was a parking lamp, again with a long flex, the parking lamp was sort of torpedo shaped with a red lens at one end and a white lens on the other and a clip designed to grip on the top a side window with the appropriate colour of lens facing the on coming traffic....perhaps more suited to a time when there were far fewer vehicles parked on the road, or if parked in rural surroundings with no street lights.

I also remember electric strip elements with a sucker at either end that could be affixed to the bottom of the windscreen or rear window of a saloon car to de frost it... In some countries I think the UV degradation may have been an issue for the insulators breaking up around the metal parts of the plug arrangement causing shorts...?

I might have thought that concours entry types might have gathered up such period accessories for an extra point or two... (-:

I assume the side screen fitment is the work of an incompetent auction house employee, I wouldn't take it as an indication of more widespread deficiency. I'm surprised there was nobody around to correct the fault before the pictures were taken though.

Here for the record are the relevant photos, in case they disappear when the auction ends tomorrow:

I thought it was one of the most ridiculous things I'd seen in an auction listing until I noticed this a few lots further on!...

Jesus what is that yellow thing.
I read further it is a Belgium design kit car, mercifully it seems not many have been built.

The highest bid on the Morgan was €11.500 (although it's not clear to me if it reached its reserve).

The hideous yellow kit car doesn't seem to have attracted any bids.
